Abstract

In this study, I compared the actual consumption and income adequacy between pensioner households and non-pensioner households using the 5th KReIS(Koea Retirement and Income Study) data. Total annual income of pensioner households was significantly more than non-pensioner households. The proportion of public pension income was high in pensioner households and the proportion of private transfer income was high in non-pensioner households. Pensioner households are spending a lot compared to the non-pensioner households in all of the consumption expenses excluding housing costs. Non-pensioner households` the proportion of food and water/heating consumption expenditure was higher than pensioner households. In the case of housing costs, there was not significant difference between two groups. Therefore, housing costs will be the burden of non-pensioner households. Whether or not the households were pensioners had a positive effect on the income adequacy but did not have a significant effect on total consumption expenditure.
